Patriots Sweep Mid-South Baseball Awards
Robertson, Chopping earn POY honors, five others named all-conference
From thepilot.com – There’s pressure with carrying on a program’s standard, but after four years playing in the Pinecrest baseball program, carrying on that mantle is an everyday occurrence that Bohdi Robertson and William Chopping have grown accustomed to.
Even after they unlaced their cleats for one final time in high school, the players continued the legacy of Patriots earning conference postseason awards this week. Robertson was voted the Mid-South Conference position player of the year, and Chopping won conference pitcher of the year honors for a second consecutive year.
“It keeps the program’s standards high and makes the underclassmen want to fill in our shoes now that we are going to be gone,” Chopping said. “It makes them want to have goals and set them seeing players in our organization winning it.”
The conference player of the year honor marks four straight seasons, and nine out of the last 10 seasons a Patriot won that honor through their respective conference. READ MORE.

From highschoolot.com – 2-seed Myers Park terminated 7-seed Pinecrest's season in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 8A baseball state playoffs on Friday.
The Mustangs (23-4 overall) got at least one run in through the first four innings and held the Patriots to two hits in the 5-1 win.
Pinecrest wrapped up its season with a 19-8 overall record. The Patriots finished in second place in the Mid-South 7A/8A Conference.
The Mustangs jumped on the Patriots with two runs in the first inning. A single from Evan Howard sent home Addison Rowland and then a double from Reydi Rodriguez scored Howard.
Pinecrest's lone run came in the top of the second. Owen Todd doubled to right, allowing William Chopping to score from first base. Chopping was hit by a pitch on his at bat. But Myers Park got out of the situation with just the one run allowed. READ MORE.

Patriots Double-Up Pumas in First Round
NCHSAA 8A Playoffs - First Round: Pinecrest 6, Palisades 3
From thepilot.com – The state playoffs in any high school sport seems to bring a sense of unfamiliarity when squads from across the state square off.
The Pinecrest baseball team found themselves in that space taking on Palisades in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 8A state playoffs in Southern Pines Tuesday. The Patriots were the ones who adapted quickly, picking up the two opposing pitchers in a 6-3 victory.
“We locked in a lot knowing that this could be over half of the team’s last high school game,” senior pitcher William Chopping said of the 11-man senior class. “It meant a lot, so we had to lock in. We didn’t know who they were going to be throwing. He just pounded right from the start.”
The Patriots’ win advanced them to the second round of the playoffs to face Myers Park, a familiar foe for a matchup this season, on the road Friday. READ MORE.

Pinecrest Tops Laney in Playoff Atmosphere
Pinecrest 4, E.A. Laney 2
From thepilot.com – The Pinecrest Patriots baseball team took the field for the third and final time this season on a Saturday afternoon to take on a highly-ranked squad to help the team prepare for postseason play.
Facing off with the Laney Buccaneers at home in a late season non-conference test, the Patriots rallied to a 5-2 win heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
Pinecrest head coach Jeff Hewitt described the contest as a playoff atmosphere game with energy along with the level of talent in both dugouts.
“This game was on the schedule for a reason. I think everybody saw it out here today that we want a playoff atmosphere. We want to play the best we can play, and we want to put our guys in position to see this so that when we get into the playoffs we’re prepared,” Hewitt said. READ MORE.
